关于该诗的作者是谁，说法较多，一种说法是出自张小娴的小说《荷包里的单人床》，另一种说法是出自印度著名诗人泰戈尔诗集《飞鸟集》，但《飞鸟集》中并未收录近似诗句。还有说该诗诗出自张爱玲。

该诗讲的是飞鸟和鱼之间悲伤的故事。说的是一只飞鸟，在飞过一片美丽的水域时，偶遇一条浮在水面呼吸的鱼，眼神相撞，久久凝望。

它们惊讶地发现，彼此都已深深地爱上了对方。飞鸟就在空中盘旋，迟迟不肯飞走。而这条鱼也久久不愿沉入水底。

然而 ，它们毕竟是有着两个完全不同境遇的生命，注定无法走到一起。最后这条鱼带着深深的叹息，沉入水底，而那只鸟也悲伤的飞离了那片水域。匆匆相遇，匆匆离散。

从此，这只鸟再也没有经过这片美丽的水域，鱼也再没浮出过水面，音讯渺茫。
